Welcome Kitah Dalet – it is a pleasure to have such a wonderful group of students this year!
During the year, we will concentrate on three main subject areas: Hebrew, Bible and Jewish Life.
HEBREW
1. review and strengthen Hebrew reading with our textbook and with the siddur
2. establish strong vocabulary skills
3. learn new words using in class and out of class materials
4. learn to write Hebrew sentences, stories and poems
5. learn to speak in Hebrew!
6. Learn selected t’fillot (prayers) & their meaning using our Prayer Companion book
Differentiated Hebrew program:
After assessing my student's individual needs in the areas of letter recognition, sequencing, reading and conversational ability, we have implemented a differentiated Hebrew program for Dalet (4th Grade) and Hey (5th Grade), which meets three times a week. At the start of each day, I work with my Dalet class on our grade-level Hebrew curriculum, building upon a graded system of vocabulary and grammar. During the 2nd half of each Hebrew period, my students are then divided into ability-based groups, allowing them to further develop their skills in reading, writing, comprehension, conversation, and composition. The results have been great and the program well received by all students!
BIBLE
1. introduce the students to Biblical history
2. identify and understand the qualities of each Biblical hero
3. understand the role of Judges in Biblical history
4. understand our Jewish heritage through learning the Bible
JEWISH LIFE
1. learning the concepts and customs of our holidays
2. learn the vocabulary and song of the holidays
3. learning the stories connected to the holidays
4. concentrate on important subjects concerning Jewish life such as prayers, tzedakah and our connection to the State of Israel
5. learn about Israel: the country, the people, and its cities
6. tzedakah: the class will decide which group/agency will receive our funds
