Curriculum Overview - KITAH BET Teacher: Gallila Waintraub
Assistant: Don Waintraub
Text: The Hebrew Primer for Derech Binah The beginning of this school year has gone very nicely. We have a delightful group of children in this year’s Bet class.
HEBREW
We will be learning the letters and vowels of the Hebrew Alef-Bet and will then begin reading.
We will learn Hebrew sentences related to Jewish holidays, classroom and family, food and blessings, weather and the seasons, and birthday blessings. We will be playing games and various other activities.
JEWISH LIFE
We will study about holidays, Shabbat and Jewish tradition and customs. We will have a special project for each holiday. Every week, we will also discuss parashat hashavua, the weekly Torah portion, along with activities and songs.
MUSIC
In addition to music in class, we have special Sunday music sessions with Beth Lobel, when we learn songs related to the holidays and Jewish life.
SPECIAL PROGRAMS
Save the date: Our Bet-PACE program, for parents and students, will focus on Purim and will be held on Sunday, February 7, 2010.
CLASSROOM PROCEDURE
In each lesson, we will learn new words, letters, and vowels, which we will practice by games, projects, etc. once a week in class. Your child should review this at home; review can be done in reading, writing, singing and playing. (I recommend all of the above!). Boys should remember to bring a kippah
Encourage your child to talk about school. Ask your child to tell you about
· new friends that she/he has met
· routines that were learned in class
· the names of the letters and vowels of the Hebrew alphabet
· the weekly Torah portion and the holidays.
We are looking forward to great year for Kitah Bet!
